Montana Sports Betting 1n3m5w

Montana was one of four states to have legal sports betting grandfathered in under the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) of 1992, although it never actually took advantage and launched a regulated market.

But in December 2018, seven months after PASPA was finally abolished by the U.S. Supreme Court, two Montana lawmakers announced they were drafting bills ahead of the 2019 session that would allow internet and mobile sports betting and kiosks at bars, restaurants and taverns.

In May 2019, the state authorized sports betting through a network of sports wagering kiosks operated by the Montana Lottery. In March 2020, sports betting went live at more than 100 retail establishments and the website, Sports Bet Montana, also launched. The app allows registrations and deposits without visiting a physical location, but is only accessible to make wagers when on the property of a retailer.

Sports Bet Montana, the state’s lottery-run sports betting platform, continues to operate through kiosks in licensed bars and restaurants, as well as via the app, which still requires s to be physically present at a licensed location to place bets.
