In March 2024, Maryland’s House of Delegates approved House Bill 1319, which would legalize online casino gaming in the state. The bill proposes up to 12 online casino licenses, with a 55% tax rate on slots and 20% on table games. However, the bill stalled in the Senate and did not advance to a statewide referendum in 2024.

iGaming remains illegal in Maryland, but lawmakers are expected to revisit the issue in the 2026 legislative session, with growing from casino operators and state officials seeking new revenue sources.

In 2018, Maryland’s State Lottery and Gaming Control Commission took over regulation of the fantasy sports industry in the state.
